    chocolate cauliflower smoothie

This is my go-to smoothie for when I’m running out of the house and need something substantial. It tastes amazing and you would never know there’s cauliflower and mushrooms in it! My two year old is also a fan. So hashtag winning! The cauliflower leaves the smoothie nice and creamy and the chocolate masks the cauliflower taste, I promise!

    cold brew coffee smoothie

Coffee… is it healthy or not? There’s all kinds of studies saying it is and isn’t. Truth is, one cup of coffee per day likely isn’t going to cause you harm, but when you’re using coffee as a false source of energy, health problems are likely to follow. There’s no substitute for a good night’s sleep and if we are fueling our bodies with caffeine, we are likely interfering with the depth of our sleep and our body’s signs telling us that we are tired. Bottom line, you can have your morning cup of coffee, just don’t have four! Too much coffee has been linked to raising blood pressure, LDL (bad cholesterol), homocysteine (elevated levels associated with heart attack and stroke) and causing adrenal fatigue by keeping your body in a chronic state of stress. To be fair, there are a few benefits to coffee, like antioxidants which fight free-radical damage, but probably not enough to call it a health food.

    pina colada popsicles

You asked for some of our favorite summer treats so here’s another super easy four ingredient popsicle recipe! There’s no need for any added sugar, the fruit is so sweet on its own! If you don’t like “coconut” flavor, you may still like these. I hate shredded coconut but the mild, real coconut flavor that comes from the coconut milk is delicious. Oh and there’s not actually alcohol in these despite the name, so they’re great for kids too. If you let the pops freeze just until they’re frozen through but not rock solid, they have a wonderful creamy texture that is just perfect!

    blender sweet pea pancakes

I’m not one to celebrate holidays with kitschy decorations and such but I thought you all would appreciate a special post for St. Patrick’s Day. These green pancakes are a fun way to sneak vegetables into your kid’s breakfast (and yours). They’re mostly made of peas which are probably overlooked for their nutritional value. Did you know one cup has 15% of your daily value of protein? They are also a very good source of fiber, vitamin K, manganese, vitamin B1, vitamin C, copper, phosphorus and folate among others! Recent studies also show their unique phytonutrient content helps protect against stomach cancer.

    anti-inflammatory banana muffins

I recently realized I haven’t shared any baking recipes with you here on ‘hello wholefoods’ so today I will change that! My family pretty much always has a steady stock of either a version of these banana muffins or breakfast bars (which I will share another time). These are easy to make and happen to be gluten free, dairy free, egg free, can easily be made nut free for those with allergies, and are kid approved by my 17 month old and by my 2 and 5 year old nieces! I mean, who doesn’t want muffins for breakfast?

    eggnog smoothie

Today I’m sharing a super simple eggnog smoothie with you, except with no eggs or milk, and it is still delicious! Feel free to tweak the recipe however it suits you. I like to add some cashew butter to make it more filling and sometimes lucuma powder which adds a little maple like sweetness. Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit and adds protein, beta-carotene, iron, zinc, B3 and calcium to the mix. I’d love to hear what you think of this smoothie!

    matcha mint smoothie

Today I’m sharing my first green smoothie recipe so far and a quick blog post because it’s been a crazy week. If you know me at all, you know I am a huge proponent of green smoothies. It’s such an easy and delicious way to sneak greens into your morning routine. It takes a few extra minutes in the morning and you can take it with you on the go. Also, I have never met a child you doesn’t love smoothies. If you’ve never had a green smoothie before, I think this is a good one to start with because you can’t even taste the spinach. If you’re a green smoothie aficionado you may want to add some kale or moringa powder to this one.

    peach & oat breakfast smoothie

I love how modern kitchen appliances can turn healthful food into quick, easy, and delicious meals! One of my favorite kitchen appliances is our blender. My husband and I use it so often that my baby isn’t even fazed by it. Mostly we use it for smoothies, which are my go-to breakfast in the summer. Smoothies are great to take with you on your commute to work or drink with one hand while you hold a baby in the other.
