OK, I confess, I was skeptical at first. Not about Joy or her nutritional counselling program. I know her. She is well educated about nutrition and she practices what she preaches! My skepticism was about my ability to change my ingrained bad eating and living habits. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks!” But since I’d be turning 60 in a few short months, I decided it was time to make a sincere effort to get healthy!
When I started Joy’s health coaching program, I was .1 point away from becoming a diabetic. My LDL cholesterol was not outrageously high but my LP(a) blood work test indicated that my “bad” cholesterol within my LDL was bad enough for my very conservative doctor to put me on a statin medication. (Something I swore would never happen to me!) So, it was time for me to make some healthy changes! I figured I was going to give this nutrition program my best shot!
What I liked most about Joy was her kind, calm, reassuring (never judgmental) encouragement each time we met. She took the time to actually listen to me and my concerns, not just about my diet, but also about particular stresses in my life, which obviously had an effect on my overall health. What I also liked about her was that she went slowly and only gave me 1 or 2 new challenges for each session. Since I did want to make progress, and since I also wanted to please her, I took the challenges seriously and found that making small changes to my diet, exercise routine, and sleeping habits really helped me. After a session or two, I realized, “I CAN DO THIS!”
My #1 goal as I started the health coaching program was to lower my blood sugar and cholesterol numbers to improve my overall health. I have reached my initial goal! I am no longer pre-diabetic. My A1C numbers continue to fall. My LDL cholesterol also continues to come down and I hope to be off my statin medication within the next couple of months. I’m feeling much better over all — more energy, less fatigue, and less winded when doing something strenuous.
But, what I am most thrilled about, is that I have developed new eating, sleeping and exercise habits! I see now, why the program had to be 6 months long. It truly takes that long to change what were, in my case, life long unhealthy patterns that I had become, quite frankly, very comfortable with–even though I knew they were not good for me. I am now setting new goals concerning my health and aiming to improve my A1C and cholesterol numbers even more!
I can truly say that the time, effort and money spent on this program was more than worth it! After all, how much is health and life worth? It is indeed, PRICELESS! I want to be able to watch my grandchildren grow up and I want to be able to participate in their lives and activities in my best possible health.
Joy’s nutritional health counselling program has truly changed my life for the better! I am no longer a skeptic! The program was definitely “do-able.” Now that it has ended, I have no intention of going back to my old bad habits. I believe this program was one of the best things I could have done, not just for myself and my own health, but also as a gift to my family and loved ones– as it enables me to be more available to them now, and hopefully, will enable me to live a longer, healthier life for them as well.
I highly recommend Joy’s nutritional counselling program to anyone –young, or old who is willing to invest the time and effort for 6 short months in order to reap the positive, healthy benefits of it for a lifetime!
donnanew jerseyWorking with Joy has been great! When I started her health coaching program I was looking for help transitioning to healthier lifestyle. I gained so much knowledge! Why to eat and avoid certain foods, dangers of GMO’s and tons of resources to learn more, even new cooking skills (hello kombucha!). It’s great how approachable Joy is, and how well she breaks down complex topics. I was trying to take charge of my health and needed help figuring out what changes to make, and I definitely got the tools I needed. Now I’m fully transitioned to the plant based lifestyle I desired, and equipped to continue learning.
