about

Welcome to hello wholefoods! My name is Joy. I am a certified health coach living in New Jersey with my husband and three children. Prior to 2008, I had no concept of how nutrition affected my health and I lived off of Starbucks, bagels, pasta, and chewy chips ahoy cookies. I struggled with debilitating dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) which kept me home from work and school. After trying the conventional route of birth control and only getting worse, I finally had my “ah-ha moment” and began to change what food I put in my body.

As I began eating whole foods, I was astounded at how my health improved! Not only did I feel and look better, but I also did not feel deprived or forced to eat healthy. Quite the opposite happened! I enjoyed food even more than I ever had before! The more whole foods I ate, the less I even wanted the processed food. I believe healthy food should not taste bad, it should not feel like a chore to eat, it should be delicious and satisfying and fun!

My favorite quote from Hippocrates reads “let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food”, and I cannot even begin to explain how true I have found that to be. Food will either feed disease or truly nourish your body. It has the power to change the expression of your genes and the power to determine your vitality as you age. Here at hello wholefoods my goal is to inspire you to start eating more vegetables, fruit, legumes, mushrooms, nuts and seeds. I share (mostly) simple recipes with whole ingredients. The recipes are plant based and packed full of disease fighting antioxidants and micronutrients that will make you feel better and give you more energy.
